Coming of age

Of forgotten goodbyes
And promises lingering about the curve of your lips
Alcohol laced with sweet abandon
And music so loud I forget how to breathe

Of harsh hopes and time
Slipping away like sand from my hands
Smattering across the asphalt
And disappearing beneath the cracks

Of brick walls assembled haphazardly with tar
Leaving traces on my bloodied hands
A mixture of cement and blood and tears
Flashes of lightning streaking the sky
A temporal brightness shining through cracks
